ANIMAL Connection and COMPASSION and CAUSES OF THE HEART
Lankie and Mo
The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
- M. Gandhi
We each have causes of the heart and political passions--issues and sociel concerns that move us to DO something to make a positive difference, to speak up for those unable to do so, or to offer comfort or assistance where we can.
We don't all share the same causes and passions. I suspect the particular passions each of us has is ours for a particular reason, and that it is part of our sacred journey in this lifetime to respond on behalf of those passions and causes close to our hear.
My causes of the heart include compassion for animals and the environment, all of nature's beauty we've been blessed with.
It can be the little things one does that make a big difference. At some point, there's a tipping point ...
Take your own coffee mug or re-usable water bottle to meetings. Keep a favorite in your car. You'll reduce wasted cups in landfills, AND have a nice warm coffee cup to use as well. And some of like me have coffee mugs that MATCH with what we're wearing.
Whatever your passions are, I hope you will be inspired to co-create a safer, more compassionate, and just place to live. We each make a difference. Thank you.
GIVING BACK to the COMMUNITY
ANIMALS touch my heart ... and I Share with the Elmbrook Humane Society In 2009 my husband and I adopted our little black cat, Mo (Mozambique), from Elmbrook Humane Society. She'd been in the system for a long time, waiting for us. And that's where I started as a volunteer in 2010.
Did you know there was a volunteer role called 'cat socializer?' Dog walkers too. (Check it out.) Once a week, we take a little time to be there and "socialize."
It allows the cats to get out and stretch and get some extra TLC and play time. I saw how "Mo" just stretched, big long stretches, when we got her home. It feels good knowing we are helping prepare these sweet things for the person or family who will love and adopt them. Elmbrook Humane Society is a no-kill facility, and it's a good place with good people.
Volunteer at a shelter... Good for the animals and for ourselves. Mo (under the chair) was a shelter cat. Now I volunteer there when I can. Who knew there was such a role as cat socializer / cat-care specialist / cat transporter to area partnering pet supply places. (Area Petco, Petsmart have helped lots more shelter animals find homes.)

When someone asks me to contribute to a cause that provides funding for 'research,' I want to know what kind of research. In many cases, 'research' is not a compassionate choice for animals. And there ARE alternatives, options that honor my heart.
